Location:

Somerset is a beautiful and historic county located in the South West of England, known for its rolling countryside, charming villages, and warm sense of community. With a population of just over half a million, Somerset offers a peaceful and fulfilling way of life — ideal for those looking to work in supportive, people-focused roles like social care.

A Place of Natural Beauty

The landscape of Somerset is varied and inspiring. From the Quantock Hills and Mendip Hills, both Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the wide open spaces of Exmoor National Park, there is no shortage of fresh air and scenic views. The county is dotted with peaceful footpaths, farmland, and quiet lanes, making it perfect for nature lovers.

Towns and Cities

Somerset offers a mix of rural and urban life. The county town of Taunton is a central hub with good shopping, schools, and transport links. Other notable towns include Yeovil, Bridgwater, Frome, and Wells — England’s smallest city, famous for its cathedral and medieval charm. Each area has its own unique feel, but all share a strong sense of local identity and pride.

Work and Lifestyle

Somerset has a growing need for care and support professionals, especially as many residents are older or live in rural areas. The demand for kind, capable carers is high, and there are opportunities across the county in both private homes and care services.

Living costs in Somerset are generally lower than in large cities, and the pace of life is calmer. People are friendly, welcoming, and supportive of newcomers, particularly those who are here to make a positive difference in the community.

Accessibility

Despite its rural charm, Somerset is well connected. Major roads like the M5 motorway link it to Bath, Bristol, Exeter, and the rest of the country, and train services make it easy to travel to London and beyond. The nearby Bristol Airport also offers international connections.

Whether you’re drawn by the countryside, the community, or the chance to make a meaningful contribution through your work, Somerset is a place where you can feel both at home and valued.
